The beautiful complex will engulf the entire jail site, provide close enough comfort for all those blessed with living in spitting distance from the site to wake up every morning with our cups of coffee and toast an inmate. Maybe the small windows will provide hours of entertainment for the inmates that can now look into dozens of college girl’s windows. Now this is effective planning. I may be guilty of the not in my backyard argument, but come on, can’t we do a little better than place a jail in such close proximity to the university and higher density housing? The 31 million dollar bond is just the tip in the iceberg of change orders to come; taxpayers should expect to pay more than that. The depreciation of dozens of homes will be exponential compared to the rest of the city and the first time homebuyers in the area will see there dreams squashed. Finally, please take a look at the county’s web site for the site plan and see for yourself why you should vote NO in November. One other quick thought, a commissioner told me that relocating to another site would cost multi millions, what about the long term effects on enrollment at the university with a expanding jail over the next 30 years (see county web site for site expansion details). I believe this site could have an effect on enrollment at the university. Anyone know of any jails in any states located this close to a universityIn an attempt to keep this issue current please see the link below. The list is as of Oct. 8th and contains all the inmates in the Gallatin county jail. Please look at the amount of sexual offenders and ask yourself if our proposed placement of the 32 million dollar McMansion is the best placement. Recently a county commissioner told us that the new facility would have a nice workout facility for the inmates, so keep that in mind as you vote. your vote will go towards a nice work out facility for sex offenders. Maybe if there is any lawn left, the inmates can mow the grass and look at all the nice looking 20+ females in the area. Does the jail have a starbucks? and if so will the inmates have swipe cards for their purchases? While we are at it, plasma TV's have come down a ton, let's load up those cells. In a futile attempt I have tried calling the bozeman chronicle to in some way, shape, or form post "the other side" of the jail debate and have come up empty, no call backs, no interest at all. One quick point, into today's bond market how easily will it be to find buyers at this interest level and are there better priced bonds out there than 5%.
